State Honored with National Rankings

Forbes, Princeton Review, Washington Monthly, Wall Street Journal: They all have Indiana State University on their lists.

Forbes included Indiana State on the America’s Top Colleges ranking, listing the university among its Best in the Midwest (163), top Public Colleges (250), Research Universities (255) and Best Value Colleges (292).

The Princeton Review ranked Indiana State on its Best Regional Colleges ranking.

“Many students, particularly athletes and musicians, pick ISU because it’s ‘financially affordable,'” the Princeton Review wrote. “When they get there, students find plenty more to love, whether it’s the fact that ‘ISU is small and the professors really care,’ (or) the way it fosters ‘substantive knowledge and practical experience’ in its students’ education.

“Students find that ‘professors don’t just lecture, they provide students with hands-on opportunities’ and ‘individualized personal instruction.’ ‘We do a lot of field work here, sometimes more than homework.’ Whether you’re a scientist or an artist, ‘ISU suits the needs of every type of learner,’ and ‘diversity and making connections’ rank high among students’ reasons to be satisfied with their education.”

State is listed as a best college for National Universities (293) and tied for 78 in Top Performers on Social Mobility rankings by the U.S. News and World Report. State is ranked as a Best Online Graduate Nursing Programs (tied for 88) and Best Online Bachelor’s Programs (tied for 150). The university is ranked for the following graduate programs: Biological Sciences (tie 140), Clinical Psychology (tie 124), Computer Science (133), Best Fine Arts Programs (tie 157), Occupational Therapy (tie 75), Physician Assistant (tie 126), Psychology (tie 202), Best Public Affairs Programs (tie 199), Social Work (tie 96) and Speech-Language Pathology (tie 92).

Indiana State is also included in The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings, which includes input from more than 200,000 current American college students that is collected through Timed Higher Education’s annual U.S. Student Survey. State’s strongest areas were in engagement and environment.

Washington Monthly ranked State 38th in service, 71st in social mobility and 12th in Pell graduation gap out of 300-plus institutions.

For the 12th consecutive year, Indiana State received a Tree Campus USA designation. Tree Campus USA is a national program that started in 2008 and honors colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals.
